Well, it's official. MJH will have one of his big front top teeth missing for a whole month!!! He's not too happy about it and the periodontist that he saw actually chuckled at him.
Some of you know about MJH's dental woes - for those who don't - basically, his top left tooth is dead and could snap off at any second. This stemmed from an injury when he was about 10 years old. It is rare for dentists to take X-rays of your front teeth but last month our wonderful and inspired dentist thought it would be a good idea. Low and behold - MJH had a MAJOR and UNUSUAL dental issue going on in there! To fix it, the tooth has to be pulled and prepared for an implant.
There is not really a better way to handle this other than with humor. I'm about ready to start shopping at the Salvation Army for a good pair of denim overalls for him. He's got a straw hat. We just need some lemonade and a squeeky old rockin' chair.
He is trying to come up with some outlandish stories that he can tell about how he lost his tooth. I just told him that what he really should do is take a month off and spend some time in 1st grade with all of the other toothless people in town - he would feel right at home I'm sure. Poor guy. Too bad this didn't happen a little closer to Halloween. (You better believe I will post a good picture when it actually happens! Stay tuned.)

Poor guy!!! Maybe he needs to come hang out here with us in Flint - he'd fit right in! No kidding - about half of our ward is missing most of their teeth - so come on out, Matt!
Love the sense of humor. I hope you soon as the same. He would have fit right in with our Ward in Georgia when we lived there, LOL!

I love reading your blog and making your recipes...this particular post made me laugh! Don't you know the kids will be so amused when they come to see their doc. Lucas would totally stare at it with a scrunched up nose...you know the stare you get when you have a zit:) I can't wait to see the pictures!
That is great! Just tell him how cool all of the other dads wish they could get the same reaction with just a smile! He'll have people double taking all month, and he'll be laughing! Could be worse, could be all of them, then spend 6 weeks with his gums healing, then dentures! Oh, kiss that!

He's takin' a likin' to hockey? He got in a bar fight? You punched him in the mouth? He was chasing after a bunny in the wash and fell on a rock? Holy moly he'd fit right in here in Tooele! You'd be surprised at how many are missing their teeth! Poor guy.
