It all Trickles Down

I remember saying to many moms that there wasn't a better time to have a child with a disability - there are so many things available to them now. New technology, gadgets, toys, therapies. . . Unfortunately, that's not the case today. I just got a call saying that the state of AZ will be cancelling every single one of AVH's therapies (for all children birth to 3 yrs.)- they will no longer be paying for any of them. Our only hope is our insurance company. I have no idea what or if our insurance has been helping to pay for any of AVH's 5 therapy appointments each week. You better believe that I will be finding out about that soon. Apparently this is effective March 13th - soon.

Our case worker called in tears to tell us. I am in tears now.

A year ago I would have been far more emotional I think. At least AVH is walking and he is communicating well with signs, but there is so much more work to be done. It's unbelieveable that the state would cut this funding to the children who have critical growing and learning to do.

There is so much to say . . . I don't even know what to say. It's very sad.

I'm so sorry. Please let us know if there is anything we can do! We can write letters to whomever or call or anything!! I'm serious. We will keep you in our prayers. We will pray that your insurance WILL pick up the cost for a therapist. Please keep us posted. Much LOVE!!! Tami

It's making me angry! Really angry! I'm so sorry. I know his therapy has helped him so much. I just don't understand this. They clearly don't see the big picture.

That's horrible Adrienne! I have not had a call like that, but Emily is no longer covered by DDD. She's on ALTC. I wonder if they will be making cuts as well. She also gets therapy at school so HUSD pays for that. Wow...scary times. I pray that the economy will get better soon and they will be able to reinstate Alex's therapies. And I really hope your insurance can help. This stinks!

You know...I was just thinking about it and at one point, when Emily was with DDD, our insurance WAS paying part of the bill. It seems like they were willing to cover part of PT, but NOT speech.

I just got my letter and even though I knew it was coming it still stung to read it.

It is amazing what a State will do to save money. I can't believe they are taking this away to help them save, I can bet there are other things they could cancel instead of something so important. You will be in our prayers.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe it. Seems like some of the most important things get cut first. No fair! I hope things work out, and am anxious for an update. By the way, on your previous post- that's my boy part 2- I'm with you, I think AVH is so dang cute. You will be blessed for taking such good care of him. What a special mom and dad to be intrusted with one of God's perfect children. You are both inspirations for the rest of us! The Lord knows your worries and will be there for you, I know it. God bless.......
