I remember thinking several months ago, as we were praying around the dinner table, “How in the world are we going to get AVH to fold his arms for prayer?!” I just couldn’t see it happening very easily. It never occurred to me that folding our arms was like a sign language sign. After all of our modeling, AVH has just started doing it on his own. We thought we caught him folding his arms a couple of times this week but this morning he crawled right over to us kneeling and stopped and folded his arms right along with us. What a cool moment! That’s one thing that I haven’t had to struggle to teach him, he just picked it up.

(He was way too quick with his arm folding for me to catch it on the camera – this is the best I got!)
His signing is really taking off. He is great at imitating new signs that he sees and it seems like he will do a new sign or two each time our speech therapist comes. Some of the signs he can do are: more, milk, Dad, thank you, all done, apple, cracker, dog, ball, night-night, car, eat, out, shoes, baby, cat, bubbles, no and bye-bye. In fact, we were at the park the other day and a little boy was watching us do some signing and he said to his mom, “Man that baby’s smart!” Of course I felt like one proud mamma!
Right now the only verbal words that he has are Uh-oh and Moo but we figured this part would take a while. He does give kisses now too – it is so cute but a little slobbery!
Every six months we have a meeting with all of our therapists and our support coordinator and we go over the goals that we have set for AVH. We see if he has met those goals and then we write new goals. We had this meeting yesterday. We checked off a lot of goals that he had met! And it was so nice to hear every single therapist talk about how they LOVE coming to work with AVH and they are so proud of the progress he is making. Our support coordinator hadn’t seen him in 6 months and she was blown away with where he is at right now with development. It has been an exciting time for our family. Man, he is a cutie and we love him!

What great news! I can't wait to get one those slobbery kisses. The pictures of Alex are so precious. His hugs are the best! Can you tell I am a proud Ma?
What a doll! He knows so many words in sign language. I took ASL in High school for a sememster, and I still don't know that many signs.
By the way, how is your gingerbread house coming? I am expecting great things from our "fondant" challenge winner!
Way to go Alex! He is such a cutie. We miss you guys!
That is awesome Adrienne! I am excited for all of you. I love it when they hit new milestones, especially the ones you work really hard for! That one little moment makes all of the hard work worthwhile.
That is so great to hear. It's amazing all the signs he knows.
PS I loved your fondant "cheesecake." That was my favorite!
I love your updates on Alex. That is awesome!
When I first read the title to this post I was thinking "did he get up and walk away?" Willie Nelson style?
He doing so well. You should be a proud mom!

It's great to hear all of Alex's progress! So cute that he's folding his arms!
What a keeper. So cute. Glad to hear he is picking up more and more on the signing. Sounds like he is doing awesome.
You are an amazing mom. I'm so glad things are going well. I'm sure there are hard days and moments, like in all our lives. But it's nice to stop and think about all the blessings we have, too. He is sooo cute!
