Progress

AVH has been making such good progress lately! He finally has said his first word, "Uh-Oh." Last week it was just "Uh" and now he's got the whole thing. He also said, "Mama" last night slowly and deliberately when I asked him to say it. So, he's not calling me "Mama" yet, but he did say it. His sign language continues to get better all the time too. Our speech therapist is so excited about everything starting to really click with him that she asked if we could have her come twice a week. I was SO excited because this was always my goal to have 2 speech sessions/week - I just didn't know when it would happen. I've always known that AVH would walk and run and play but the speech factor would be work in progress forever. I want him to speak as clearly as possible - so we are jumpin' right in! We have also started using these picture cards that will help AVH with communicating. There are pictures and cards for every word you can imagine. It is kind of amazing but kids with DS can recognize whole words long before they know what sound letter "A" makes so these cards will be very helpful.


He is getting stronger with pulling himself up to stand and we are working on cruising along the furniture and crawling up the stairs. Wow - it is exhausting watching him work and struggle sometimes during therapy sessions, but he's a trooper. He is starting to crawl more on his hands and knees than he did before - he still favors his army crawl though. It is all very exciting to see such progress in so many areas all at once!

You can also see from the pictures that he is wear a sporty new hair do! He is looking like such a little boy. We sure love him.
