Tagged - A Dating Story

I was tagged by Katie and so I am supposed to tell about how I met my husband, about our first kiss, how he proposed, and who wears the pants in the family. I will try and make it the short version.

MJH and I met at BYU. We went to church together. I got to know him because he would come to our next door neighbor's apartment all the time and take out their trash. He was their Home Teacher. Nice guy huh?

I was the Visiting Teacher to a lady in our ward who was from Guatemala. She was a doctor in her country but was at BYU to learn English so she could eventually practice medicine in America. I was taking Spanish at BYU so I was a natural VT for her. She would ask me all the time about how the dating scene was and if there was anyone I had my eye on. Once I told her the name of a particular boy in our ward - fun guy, wouldn't mind if he asked me out.

Well, MJH spoke Spanish also and was a good friend of this lady too. One day he was talking with her and lamenting the fact that there were no girls in the ward who were interested in dating him. And she quickly told him that there WAS a girl interested - the "little brown haired girl across the street" (Me). She mentioned this based on the coversation I had had with her - however, the guy I was talking about was NOT MJH. Oops. A little mix up.

MJH started to become highly interested in me (based on his faulty insider info) and I was wondering what was up with him. I wasn't quite sure how I felt about his new found interest. Before I knew it, he was taking out OUR trash on a regular basis - sometimes twice a day. We went out on a date to a BYU basketball game - both of us had a good time but thought that we'd never go out again. Funny how life turns out.

Later I was taking a trip to Washington DC with friends from the ward. MJH was going to be in exactly the same plave in DC the week before us for an interview. He knew all about how to get around town and by coincidence I was put in charge of getting our group from the airport to our hotel (across the street from where he was staying). So, I started talking more with MJH about his plans, trying to get some help with my assignment. Long story short, that was the start of spending one-on-one time with him and getting to know him better.

For some quirky reason we decided to meet one day on campus to give blood together - I know - silly. He was late - really late - and I was starting to get frustrated. I was running through my mind how I wasn't sure about all this time I was spending with him, didn't know how I felt about him, etc, etc. I was ready to get up and leave when he walked in - I took one look at him and I knew I was falling in love. Ahhhhh, so sweet. As they say, the rest is history.

The best part of the story though is that we had no idea about the mix up with our little Guatemalan friend until after we were married!

As far as first kiss, let's just say, movie: Sleepless in Seattle, on my couch in my apartment. MJH quote, "You wanna kiss?" MJH "Let's do that again."

Proposal: top of Maeser Hill, sunset, red velvet box and MJH is a poet. He memorized his poem but got too nervous when it came right down to reciting it at the magical moment so he read it.

Who wears the pants in the family: it depends but when we are car shopping, it is definitely me!

PS - The picture is us on 'The Monarch of the Seas' for our 10th anniversary last year.

What fun to walk down memory lane! Sadly, mine is not as spectacular as that, but it is blog worthy because of the circumstances! Maybe for our 10th anniversary I'll tell it. Does he still take out the trash. That's the one job I verbally gave Tom and I end up taking it out anyways!

That was so fun to read! I didnt know any of it. The sleepless in Seattle kiss is better than our Fat Boys Movie kiss. So embarrassing. Oh well, it all turned out good right?

That was so fun to read. Thank goodness for the little Guatemalan lady and the mix up. What a cute story. I still have never met your husband- but he sounds like quite a guy- taking out everyone's trash, writing poems etc. How fun. Thanks for sharing it.

In answer to your question- I just cut my hair short a couple months ago- right before we moved. I have always had it long so it has been a fun change- except for the fact that I cant put it in a pony tail on lazy days anymore.
