Ice Cream Sculptures

I was in charge of our joint YM/YW activity last night and I borrowed a cute idea from my sister-in-law Lisa - Ice Cream Sculpting. We had a short lesson at the beginning about Michaelangelo, the artist and sculptor. We talked about how he could "see" what was locked inside each block of marble that he carved and I related that to how the Lord sculpts and molds us. Sometimes there are things in our lives that we have to chip away at in order to allow the Lord to make us into a masterpiece. After that we divided up into teams, they strategized, and then I brought out the blocks of ice cream for them to "carve." We had candy and all kinds of toppings for them to use to create their works of art. We ended up with a car sculpture, a hand, a snowman, and a creature of some kind - it wasn't given a name. They all wore gloves so their sculptures could be eaten for refreshments afterward. I think the kids had fun and they didn't get too messy - I did mop at the end though. One of our Beehives said that it was the best activity she had been to. That made my day!

That looks like a really fun idea, maybe MIke and I can do it too. About the window painting: I would use a projector to blow up a picture and trace it onto butcher paper. We hung the paper inside the window and went outside to basically trace and fill in the picture. Some stuff I did freehand, but I am not very artistic and have trouble keeping things straight. I used an acrilic paint used for ceramics. It is the kind of paint used before fireing the ceramics. I used different brushes-----natural fiber, synthetic, sponge and a variety of shapes. Hope this helps.
