A Little Catching Up

OK so our illness was short-lived at our house - thank heaven. But the day did end with the runs - and I don't mean jogging. Just one more person to wipe down from head to toe. But seeing as though the four-year-old has perked up quite a bit, this allows me to do a little blog catch up this morning.

Like most of you, we have had a ton going on but two major events in the last little while have been attending the McCain rally right at the end of his campaign and another birthday. I know the whole McCain thing is old news but I took a ton of pictures and so I thought it would be fun to post some of them. (Note to Self: It is better to be tall when attending rallies such as this, or wear the biggest platform shoes in the closet! And when you have to wait until 12:30am for him to arrive, hot chocolate is a must.)

The guy who's head is in the picture was super nice. At one point he said to the person who came and stood right in front of us, "Look, these ladies are too nice to say it, but you need to move 'cause you just stepped in their way!"

S, Me, and J!

A little blurry, but you can tell its John and Cindy!

Also, I am not a big party planner for my kids - in fact Matt and I decided years ago that we would do "friend parties" for our kids for ages 6, 8, 10, and 12 and then that's the end of it. I am realizing now what a wise choice that was for me because putting on a party has wiped me out! Although this was a big one for CMH this year so it was worth it and he had a great time. The party isn't over yet though since we have his baptism to look forward to in a couple of weeks.

Since I am such a fondant expert now - ha! - I decided to tackle a killer whale cake for CMH's ocean themed party. It wasn't a walk in the park and it doesn't win awards for precision but he liked it and so did the lifeguards at the pool where we had his party. So here are some shots of the cake for those of you who asked to see it. BTW if you want a great party game that will keep kids busy for hours try blindfolded fishing (paper fish with paperclips and a magnet fishing pole). They had a blast with that. Also, my sister-in-law has a great tradition that we tried this year - she bakes a raisin into the cake or cupcakes and then whoever gets that piece wins a dollar bill. The kids went crazy for that too!

Kids begging to be picked next to go fishing!

Here's CMH lovin' his party

Since the cake couldn't feed all of us, we went for ocean cupcakes too.

Ok. That is an awesome cake. I made a pirate ship for one of my kids birthday's, but this is way more impressive.

By the way, I'm glad everyone is feeling better. However...EEEWWWW.

Way to go Ade! The most talented I get at cake decorating is the pre-made letters and numbers. I'm SO not creative when it comes to food! I like to cook, but I'm not clever!

We've done the same as you as far as bday parties. Our kids only have 'em at 5,8,12,16,& 18. The off years are actually more fun cuz we get to do something they really want. I like that MUCH better.

Sounds like everyone is doing much better! Glad to hear it! Take care...
