Out with the old . . . In with the Old?!

I have been waiting to post this because as funny as it seemed when we just talked about MJ's tooth coming out - this whole ordeal has ended up being quite painful and sad. Now that a week or so has gone by we are back to lauging - mostly.

Last Tuesday MJH had his tooth pulled and an implant put in. It looked terrible and the extraction took much longer to do than the dr. expected. MJ also ended up being numbed over and over and over again so not only did he leave toothless, he also had a HUGE swollen, black and blue upper lip.

I kept looking at him that day and the next, trying to decide what it was about his new look that reminded me of someone else. And then I put my finger on it . . .

The MAD Magazine guy AND . . .

Bart Simpson

We now refer to his swollen lip as his "upper Bart" and the ladies at his office caught on to this too (MJH's fault - he told them). They currently are fondly calling him "Bart." MJ called me Marge and I wasn't amused.

His tooth that was pulled got carefully bonded back in place (freaky and gross in my opinion)about 24 hours later and all seemed well until . . . MJH was eating a hamburger late Saturday night and out popped the tooth! I could have screamed (cause I'm not really a fan of his new look)! So he spent another day of embarrassment at church on Sunday with only one front tooth. Fortunately he wasn't conducting Sacrament meeting that day. That's dedication man.

Apparently he will be this way for SIX MONTHS! Everything must heal properly and then an artifical tooth can be permenantly attached to the implant. I just know that tooth will be popping in and out of place the whole time. Fortunatly our dentist gave MJH a clear retainer that has an artificial tooth glued in it just in case we're in a crunch again. I thought that was brilliant.

So, the bottom line is, our family Christmas card photo could be an interesting one this year! Can you say PHOTOSHOP?! Actually, MJH is feeling much better and the swelling seems to be gone - he's as grateful as anyone. Poor guy.

Poor guy, indeed!

I had a retainer with a fake tooth on it when I was a freshman in high school. It was fun to pop it in an out to freak people out. :)

Oh my goodness - poor Matt! I forgot why it got pulled in the first place. I'll have to go back and read that part.

maybe that toothless look will be perfect for a week spent in a cabin up in the woods!
